Tension in Győr: Orbán Heckled and the Presence of Black-Clad individuals

Di Vora Matteo, 2026.03.27.2026.03.31.

On March 27, during his campaign tour, Viktor Orbán faced tension at the event in Győr.
During his speech, parts of the crowd reacted with whistles and chants, while Foreign
Minister Péter Szijjártó encouraged supporters to protest against the Ukrainian
intelligence service and so-called “Ukrainian agents.” Attendees responded with red
cards to signal their disagreement.

Black-Clad Individuals at the Event

According to reports, black-clad individuals were present at the event, forming a line at
the front of the crowd. Opposition protesters and media sources noted that these
individuals physically impeded access to the Prime Minister. Their legal status or official
authorization was not clarified in the available reporting. Some scuffles occurred, but no
major clashes were reported.

Orbán’s Reaction

Orbán’s speech was influenced by the surrounding noise and protests. He shouted back
at hecklers multiple times, an action that observers noted differed from his typically calm
demeanor.  Opposition candidate Péter Magyar commented on the event, expressing
sadness at seeing the Prime Minister lose control and emphasizing that the majority of
the country wants a peaceful, functioning state that protects its citizens and children
while consistently addressing crime.

Broader Implications

The Győr event thus highlighted not only the campaign message but also questions
about physical and political control at such rallies. The presence of black-clad individuals
and public protest illustrated the tense atmosphere of the campaign and sparked
discussions in the domestic press about Orbán’s campaign methods
